綱：口部装置がある場合は、body cilia とは明瞭に区別される。 １つのparoral dikinetidと多数の polykinetidsによって構成される。 口部構造は腹側の oral cavity内、あるいは infundibulum内にある。
body ciliaは monokinetids で前方に向かう overlapping kinetodesmal fibrilsと divergent postciliary ribbons、radial transverse ribbonsが付属する。 caudal ciliaがあるのが普通。
生活環は複雑。あるグループは、餌の量によってmicrostomeと macrostome の２つの状態をとる。 cystを形成し tomontと呼ばれる状態になり、その中で細胞分裂して tomites となることもある。 脱シストすると therontとなり、やがて trophontとなる。

亜綱：口部域は rosette と 3 postoral kinetiesからなる。
通常，甲殻類に寄生。複雑な生活史を持つ。
自由遊泳をして増殖する時期の細胞を protomite という。 これが tomite から phoront へと変化して，蟹の鰓に付着する。そこで phoront は trophont （栄養体）へ成長する。 これが宿主から離れたものを protomontというが， protomontは tomontを経て，ふたたび protomite へ戻る。

目：tomiteの kineties は bipolarでややラセン状。 口部装置と rosetteがある。

Foettingeriidae科	ogival fieldか，ないしは， left lateral canalをもつ。 摂食中の trophontは大きい。tomite には22本以下の右側にねじれるkinetiesがある。 海洋性の甲殻類（hermite crabs, shrimp, copepods等）に共生ないし寄生。
Colliniidae科	そのような fieldも canalも持たない。 trophontは小さく卵形。背中側には繊毛がない。tomiteには9本の kinetiesがある。 oral kinety x部分に小さな rosetteがある。 amphipodsや isopodsの hemocoel内に寄生。

従来は、

とされていた。
