濃彩綱　Phaeodarea

骨格はない場合もあるが，ある場合は中空の棘状構造。栄養成長期は厚いカプセル状の膜で包まれる。 常に "phaeodium" という顆粒で取り囲まれている。

ポリキスティナ（多泡綱）、パエオダリア（濃彩綱）、アカンタリア（棘針綱）の３綱は海産でプランクトン的生活をするグループ。 これらはかつて放散虫綱あるいは放散虫目（Radiolaria）としてひとつのグループにまとめられてい たが、電子顕微鏡観察の結果から、これらの類似性は収斂進化の結果であって、おたがいの関係は うすいことがわかってきた。
