Dictyosphaerium reniforme Genus: Cells are equal in size (Illustrations of The Japanese Fresh-water Algae, 1977). Planktonic; colony within a gelatinous sheath; cell body spherical, elliptical or pear-shaped; 4 daughter cells attached to a filament dichotomously radiating from the center of the colony; a single chloroplast cup-shaped, with a pyrenoid.
Species: Cell body reniform in side view, broad-ellipsoid in face view, (6-) 10-20 μm long, (3-) 6-10 μm wide, attached by their convex side to radially, di- or tetrachotomously branced filaments; a single chloroplast cup-shaped, lying at the convex side of the cells, with a pyrenoid (Photomicrographs of the Freshwater Algae, vol. 5, 1986).
