15-24 μm thick; laterally compressed, posterior end wide and rudder-like;
chloroplasts 1(-2) per cell; without pyrenoid;
refringent bodies 2 in a dorsal position roughly mid-way along cell; nucleus posterior (John et al. eds. 2002).
