cell division occurs on the stalk forming dichotomously branching colony; 
pellicles soft but euglenoid movement rare; chloroplasts soucer-shaped in some species examined; 
a pyrenoid present at the center; a canal opened near anterior end; stigma present

Cell body spindle-shaped when attached, posterior end pointed, 
22-30 μm long, 12-16 μm wide; swimmers also spindle-shaped; 
chloroplasts soucer-shaped, 10-15 in number; 
a pyrenoid covered with paramylon sheath located at the inner center; 
a locomotive flagellum 1.5-2 times longer than the cell body; nucleus spherical, 7-8 μm in diam.; 
stigma 3-4 μm
